I have been using Google AdSense to serve text advertisements on my websites network for over 5 years now. Last year was the best year for me since I started using AdSense. I made well over $2000 in 2007, you must think I am crazy because $2000 is such a small amount but that is a lot of money for me as I am not a full time webmaster.

I have never really shared or talked about money I make from my websites because it was never material for me. By that I mean, it was nothing compared to what other people make. Money that I earned from AdSense was used by me to either buy other websites or pay the hosting bill which for me has been $10/month.

AdSense has changed since its inception and is now very advanced and state of the art. It works by scanning pages for keywords and then shows you the text advertisements that are relevant to that page. In the old days, if you were on a website looking at car pictures, you would see banner advertisements for watches. That never made sense, the likelihood of you ever clicking that banner and purchasing the watch is less than 1%.

Google has always been ahead of the world in coming up with new and innovative ideas to make money and at the same time empower webmasters and advertisers to make good use of their ad space inventory and marketing dollars respectively. AdSense is the result of an innovative approach to deliver relevant advertising that is related to the content of the website.

AdWords is used by advertisers to submit advertisements that are later served on the websites using AdSense to show text advertisements. AdSense is also popular because webmasters get paid for every click (CPC) rather than every time someone clicks a banner and buys the product advertised (CPA).

One thing I love about AdSense is that the text advertisements are a lot less obtrusive then regular banner advertising. One thing I hate about AdSense is that it only pays when you have $100 balance in your account. If you don’t, it gets rolled over to the next month.

To conclude, Google AdSense is a text advertising program that is distinctive because the ads are relevant to the content on the site. The whole process is neat, straightforward and effective. Google AdSense has some quality standards which you have to abide by to get accepted by them and then stay in the program.

If my experience of AdSense has inspired you enough to make good use of your ad space inventory, why not sign up for it? What do you have to lose?
